Hello out there! I can’t believe it’s October! I hope you are finding time to enjoy the magic of fall.

Below are some fun ways to connect, including open studios and workshops at Pinney Library and the official ribbon cutting for the new Eastmorland Community Center!

I hope to see you soon. 💛

What’s ahead?

The Art of Neighborships: Artist Residency at Pinney Library

Open Studios:

“We live in a world of distraction. Let’s pay attention to each other”

We’ve continued with portrait and world-building play, combined with so much chatting and connecting. I love talking with people about their creative inclinations and inspirations.

We’ve extended the residency through December!

Come make stuff together during open studios:

  • Wednesdays through Dec 2, 6-8pm

    • (Oct 14 and Nov 25: no open studio)

  • Thursdays through Dec 3, 9-11am

    • (Oct 15: no-school day! Extended open studio hours 9-12p, we will focus on our cardboard city build-out!)

Open studios are drop-in, no registration required!

Workshop: Cardboard Community Building

Help create our paper-mache cardboard city on wheels or build your own cardboard world to take home! We will explore how physical world building can inspire connection and build community.

All ages welcome (best for children 4+ with a grown-up)

  • Saturdays Oct 24 and Nov 21, 10:30am-12pm

Registration required and opens 2 weeks prior to each event! Sign-up through the library here

Workshop: Neighborship Invitation Printmaking

Have you been meaning to connect with your neighbors and haven’t found the time to think it through? Come flush out your idea for a potluck, book club, knitting group, coffee date, dog walk, baked goods swap, or anything you’ve dreamed up! I will provide a quick and fun cardboard block-printmaking project and all the supplies to make your invitations. (For ages 18+)

  • Tuesdays Oct 20 and Nov 17, 6-7:30pm

Registration required and opens 2 weeks prior to each event! Sign-up through the library here

Eastmorland Community Center Events!

Eastmorland Community Center construction is almost complete!

Kindling Community Arts is about to have a shiny new art room!

Below are some dates to mark for getting involved with this exciting new community resource!

Expect a slow re-launch for Kindling as we learn about this new space and work through some operational details with the community center. I hope to share class registration information in early December for launch fully in January 2027!

Landscape Planting Day

Volunteer opportunity!

Help us get these native plants in the ground at the Eastmorland Community Center. Your volunteering will make an impact in the neighborhood for years to come. Bring a water bottle. Gardening tools will be available. Families welcome.

Saturday, Oct. 10 · 9am - 12pm

Ribbon Cutting and Halloween Open House!

Join us for the Eastmorland Community Center ribbon cutting at 3:30 PM!

Followed by trick-or-treating with building partners and Halloween fun from 4–6:30 PM.

I will be collaborating with our Eastmorland neighbor pal Candy, who recently launched a very clever business called Frenting. It’s a platform for sharing or renting your stuff and I highly recommend checking it out!

At the DIY Costume Challenge & Costume Drive, you can make a costume with free upcycled materials, bring one you made at home, or find a new-to-you costume. There will be free face painting and prizes! To enter the challenge, at least part of your costume must be handmade; creative face or body paint counts.

Have clean costumes or props you no longer need? Bring them for the drive.

Frenting and Kindling Community Arts are sponsoring the costume activities. RSVPs are appreciated so we can plan supplies, but everyone is welcome to drop by.

What I’ve been up to:

I feel very grateful for a summer that was packed with art offerings throughout Madison. Here are the highlights!

  • I got to join Olbrich Gardens for their Summer Breeze Block Party, where we made hundreds of sun streamers to kick-off summer!

  • At the Harry Whitehorse Festival, I created a space for kids to make their own sculptures using the wood carvers’ scraps.

  • At Art + Lit Lab, I got to teach a couple weeks of summer camp where we made so many people and pet portraits, and some wild and hilarious paper-mache creations.

  • I got to offer a “Creative Attention Reset” for a group of non-profit executives as their afternoon breakout for a Goodman Non-Profit Center Leadership Retreat.

  • At the Goodman Community Center, I facilitated a collaborative art project for their all-staff retreat (with some of my favorite people here on earth!)
