Visit me at Pinney Library!

Hello out there!

Happy news! We don’t have to wait until the new Kindling studio opens in the fall to mess around with some arty play together! You can come visit me at Pinney Library where I just got started as their 2026 artist-in-residence.

My inspiration for the residency theme, The Art of Neighborships, comes from an obsession with my very special neighborhood friendships as well as the buzz in the zeitgeist about how strong neighborly relationships increase safety and belonging. (This was powerfully modeled for us by folks in Minnesota under threat of unjust ICE violence.) I love the clever word play nodding to what’s actionable: Neighboring, Neighborism, Neighborships, Neighborhoodies. We know how important community is, but “building it” can feel abstract. Neighborships are specific. They are unique relationships between you and another person. Someone who will invite you to the potluck or hook you up with the proverbial cup of sugar when you need it!

As part of the residency, I will host two open studios per week. These are drop-in sessions to play and get involved with whatever process I have up my sleeve that day! Expect chances to experiment with portraiture, build collaborative cardboard worlds, and connect with ideas about what it means to be in neighborship with those around us.

I’m grateful for this opportunity to make new connections and see what kind of interesting works we can create together. There is an opening reception next Wednesday and I would love to see you there!

And don’t miss the sweetest neighborhood event coming up this weekend! I plan to be there with some arty play for the kiddos.

There is one little spot left in the paper mache summer camp I’m teaching at Art + Lit Lab! Snag it?

Hope you are taking time to soak up the spring blooms and green growing things! You know what else is growing? The walls of the brand new Eastmorland Community Center, where I still plan to reopen the Kindling studio later this fall. Take a walk past 3565 Tulane Ave to see the progress on both the community center and much needed affordable housing.
